The Post 701 Vets entered the 2004 season with hopes high after three consecutive Championship Game appearances. With expectations high, the 701ers suffered through a dissappointing 9-8 regular season.

However, the Post came up big in the first game of the post-season behind the 4-hit pitching of Bobby Nichols and the clutch hitting of veteran first baseman Rich Auricchio in defeating the division Champion HiJos del Caribe 4-2. The win pitted the Post against the Yale St Funding in the Division Championship Game where they jumped out to a big lead before falling 9-7 and ending their hopes of a Class AA Championship.

Manager Vinny Fiorillo has his team on a rigorous winter training program as spring training opens in early April in a quest to recapture the title
