Gavin is entering his 13 year as a Post 701er . . . although his role has been reduced throughout the years, Gavin remains one of the teams best contact hitters . . . a career .340 hitter, Gavin hits when called upon as his 2 hits in 5 at bats in 2010 along with 3 rbis and solid play at second base . . .

After a distinguished career with the Skiba's softball squad, in which Gavin displayed extroidinary speed and clutch hitting, he joined the Post 701ers in 1999 and brought his winning attitude to a team looking for veteran leadership.

The owner of a lifetime .340 average and the Post career leader in strikeout per at bat ratio (one strikeout per 47 at bats), Gavin has seen a reduced role in recent years. He has, however, put together back to back .400 years when he hit .441 in 1999 and a career best .519 in 2000 with an on base average of .576 as he led the team in both catagories.

Gavin . . . what the hell happened???

He has suffered a seperated shoulder, torn hamstring, pulled quad over the past few years as a 701er . . . what other health issues could veteran Gavin Murdoch could be facing? It didn't take long to find out. In the very first inning of the 15-3 blowout loss to the Lost Boyz, barely 15 minutes into the game a short hop throw from centerfielder Lorenzo Fiorillo caught the second baseman squarely in the nose, breaking it in two places. A quick snap from the Diamond Notes lens caught Murdochs best impression of Sonny Corleone. Anybody got Kleenex?

Gavin filled in at second base during the 2005 season opener and made all the plays during a 14-10 loss to Eden's Deli. Despite going 0 for 3, Gavin reached on an error and hit a rocket in the fifth to right field that was caught and walked in the seventh.

LAST OUT AWARD: GAVIN MURDOCH

Starting a game for the first time in three years, veteran Gavin Murdoch performed admirably going 2 for 2 with 3 rbis before being forced to leave the game with an injury. In the 17-3 thumping of Camero, Gavin manned the scorebook until, with two out in the bottom of the sixth he was asked by Last Out Award Winner for the previous two games Ray Fyfe to pinch hit. The Fyfe strategy paid off. Murdoch lined to second saving his buddy Ray from delivering the beer for game 10. The bad news: Gavin is the Beer Boy vs The Old Timers!
