Archinal (L, 0-1) and Beck

Scheckton (W, 1-0), and Kelly

Skipper Vinny Fiorillo's 2011 Post 701ers entered the inaugural game of the new season four starters light and despite a valiant effort fell to Kelly's Imperial Lanes 5-2. Charlie Archinal was very tough in defeat scattering 7 hits while allowing but 3 earned runs. Charlie tired in the sixth allowing 3 of the 5 runs and 4 of the 7 Imperial hits in that frame. Danny Auricchio made a strong first appearance in 2011 going 2 for 2 with 2 singles, 2 wallks and a run scored. However, the Post hit parade was few floats short as Scott Brennan and Marty Tambasco got the only other 701 hits, both singles with Tambasco's being of the bunt variety.

Auricchio, who missed the last 3 games of the 2010 season with a knee injury, excelled in the field also with 3 assists and a putout at third. Danny totaled 25 hits in but 11 games in 2010 and started out 2011 right where he left off with 2 singles.

J. Loucks, LaPorta (4) L and Giery

Archinal (W, 1-1), and Jobin

Any win is sweet and when it is a comeback win the victory is that much sweeter. However, when that comeback win comes against St. Michael's, a double dip chocolate ice cream Sundae does not contain enough sugar as that win does! Trailing by 2 with 2 out and no one on, the Post rallied for two to tie it. Walks by Lorenzo Fiorillo and Bobby Lopuch set the stage for rbi singles by Danny Auricchio and the game tier by Matt Beck. Ray Fyfe scored the eventual winner on an rbi single by Zo Fiorillo as the 701ers evened their record at 1-1. Charlie Archinal got career win number 74 with a 9 inning complete game in which he walked only one while striking out eight.

Agresta (W, 2-1), Bracchi (7) and S. Hoefs

Nelson (L, 0-1), and Beck

Herk's Tavern pounded out 22 hits on the way to a 16-8 win over the Post. Nyle Nelson made his first appearance of the year only 4 weeks following knee surgery and was gritty in defeat, pitching the entire game. Bobby Lopuch led a 15 hit attack with 3 singles. Rick Jobin, Bruce Skellie, Charlie Archinal and Vinny Fiorillo each had two hits as the Post record fell to 1-2.

GAME 4

S.A.L. 0 1 0 1 0 0 0 1 3 8 1

Archinal (L, 1-2), and Jobin

Dudla (W, 2-0), and Gardinier

They were missing three vital cogs in the Post machine while facing the toughest pitcher in the Amsterdam rec softball league. Danny Auricchio, Matt Beck and Vinny Fiorillo were all absent for game four vs the Sons of the American League and pitcher Al Dudla. However, with Charlie Archinal on the mound and a makeshift lineup the 701ers put up a valiant effort against the City League front runners before falling in 8 innings in an 3-2 loss. Al Dudla, the fireballing right hander for SAL pitched the first no-hitter against the Post in history, but needed 8 innings to get the win. That was mainly because of the effort by the Post's all-time win leader Charlie Archinal who was excellent in defeat, scattering 8 hits and allowing but 2 earned runs. With a tight hamstring, Archinal kept the huge underdog 701ers in the game until the very last out.

Archinal (W, 2-2), and Beck

Camacho (L, 3-2), and Pacho

After being no-hit for their first time in their history Skipper Vinny Fiorillo called on veteran right hander Charlie Archinal to right the ship. Archinal did that in winning fashion, spinning a 6 hitter en route to an 8-3 win. Charlie got plenty of offense from Scott Brennan who went 3 for 4 with a run scored and 3 rbis. Marty Tambasco and Vinny Fiorillo each chipped in with 2 singles, a run and an rbi as the Post improved to 2-3.

Marowski (L, 1.6), and B. Slocum

Nelson, Archinal (W, 3-2) and Beck

It was the Charlie Archinal all-star show as the veteran righty retired all 15 batters he faced, including 5 via the strikeout route and had a 2 run single in a 3 run fourth inning as the Post rallied for a 3-2 win over PAV. The win evened the 701ers record at 3-3 as they played the game missing six starters. Rookie AJ Fiorillo had the eventual game winner, a 2-out rbi triple in the fourth to put the Post ahead for good at 3-2.

The Post scored 4 times in the sixth inning and turned a 4-3 deficit into an eventual 7-5 win over the Recovery Room (formally AFI). Shaun Krutz knocked in the tying run and then it was up to Matt Beck who delivered big time with the game winner, a 2 run line drive single to left. Both Krutz and Beck each had 3 hits as the Post evened their season record at 4-4

After the Post got the field ready after heavy rains they prepped their lumber to the tune of a season high 17 hits and 15 runs in a 15-4 romp over Michael's Hair. Nyle Nelson was superb in picking up his first win of the year allowing only 2 earned runs on 5 hits. Lorenzo Fiorillo had two long triples and a single in addition to two stolen bases while interim Manager Charlie Archinal was 3 for 4 with 2 runs scored and 2 rbis. With Nyle Nelson coming up with his second consecutive strong pitching performance the Post won their third straight game, 6-1 over Cameo. Nelson tossed a 2 hitter in three innings with Charlie Archinal coming on in the 4th inning and allowing but one run the rest of the way. Mike Andrews with 3 singles and Matt Beck with a single, double and three rbis paced the 10 hit Post attack.

Nelson (L), Archinal (4) and Jobin

The Post's 3 game winning streak came to an ugly end and without a wimper in a 13-1 thrashing at the hands of Charlie's. With the Fiorillo-men down 4-1 entering the 7th Charlie's put up a 9 spot thanks in large part to some ugly Post fielding and some seeing eye hits. The 701er offense consisted of only 4 hits: two by Lorenzo Fiorillo, a triple by Shaun Krutz and a single by Marty Tambasco. With the loss, the Post fell to 6-5 on the year and 2-4 at Lynch #1 where they are hitting a meager .205.

Danny Auricchio (2 for 3 with a run and rbi) and Lorenzo Fiorillo (double and single) led a 9 hit 701er attack and despite outhitting DePalma's 9-7 they were outscored by two. The loss dropped the Fiorillo-men to 8-6 with a tough part of the schedule still remaining.

Nelson (L, 2-4), Archinal (1) and Beck

Silva, Espado (W), Jimenez (7) and Molina

With 5 starters out for game 15 vs the Lost Boyz the Post faced an uphill battle and 15 minutes into the game it was apparent they were no match for the City League powerhouse. After scoring 12 runs in a first inning that did not want to end, the Boyz cruised to a 15-3 romp over the 701ers. Skipper Vinny Fiorillo had 3 of the Post's 8 hits while son Lorenzo hit his 2nd homer of the year, a deep blast to center. Mike Andrews has a 2 run triple as the Post fell to 8-7.

Roe (W) and Julia

They suffered their worst defeat in their history, a 24-0 whitewashing at the hands of Emerald Cinema. A 12 run first inning sealed their fate as the Post fell to 10-8. A double by Matt Beck and singles by Charlie Archinal and Marty Tambasco were the only Post hits.

GAME 17

Archinal (L, 6-4), and Jobin

Brinkman (W), and Deemer

Playing for their playoff lives, the Post fell short to the number one team in the Class AA, Russo's, 7-5 and ended the regular season 10-9. However, a playin game vs Charlies for the #8 seed gives the Post hopes for making the playoffs. Danny Auricchio and Rick Jobin each had 2 singles, a run scored and rbi. Lorenzo Fiorillo and Todd Mudoch each had 2 singles to lead a 13 hit Post attack.

GAME 18

August 26, 2011

Archinal (L, 6-5), and Beck

Majewski (W), and Nazardowski

Despite losing back to back games the 701ers still had life for their 4th straight playoff appearance with a playin game vs Charlies. They lost the first matchup with the youthful Charlies team back on July 18 when a 9 run seventh blew open a close game on the way to a 13-1 rout. They didn't fare that much better, when trailing by two at 6-4 in the fourth inning Charlies exploded for 6 runs on the way to a convincing 13-6 win. Lorenzo Fiorillo capped off an outstanding year with his best game going 4 for 4 with a triple, homerun, three runs scored and two rbis. However, the loss sealed the Post's fate in 2011 as they ended up at .500 with a 10-10 record.
