This core group of Post 701 Players have for the most part been playing for 15 years. Diamond Notes now presents the "TOP 5" in each offensive catagory. Many of the veterans appear on this list. Scott Brennan, Matt Beck, Bobby Lopuch and Mike Andrews are all constant reminders of the excellence in the Post 701 career batting catagories. Needless to say, nearly 3 1/2 years after his sudden passing Rich Auricchio remains a dominant name in the annuls of Post softball. His name resonances with son Danny who in a very short time has shot up the all-time Post list with his explosive power and clutch hitting. He was taught well. Another "Brat Packer" who demands recognition is the energizer man himself, Lorenzo Fiorillo. Defense, batting and running, "Zo" as labeled him self as an all-time great Post 701er in a very short time. He also learned from the best.

Beck with 2 singles, Archinal single, 2 walks and 2 ribs and Auricchio 2 walks, double, run and rbi pace 12 Post attack . . . 701ers end season at 10-10 . . .

DISAPPOINTING SEASON ENDS FOR POST IN 13-6 LOSS TO CHARLIES

6 RUN 4th BLOWS OPEN A CLOSE GAME

POST FINISHES AT 10-10 AND MISSES PLAYOFFS FOR THE FIRST TIME IN 4 YEARS

Following a forfeit win on August 12 against Robin's Nest the Post looked in good position for their 4th consecutive playoff berth at 10-7. However, three straight losses by a combined score of 44-11 spelled doom for the Fiorillo-men as they fell to .500 with a 13-6 loss to Charlie's at the Lynch #2 softball diamond. Nine starters for the 701ers missed a combined 55 games and that as much as anything sealed their fate for the 2011 season.

Enterning a must win game, Skipper Vinny Fiorillo once again had to fill out a lineup without starters Shaun Krutz, Rick Jobin, Scott Brennan and Mike Andrews. However, despite another makeshift lineup the Post got off to a 1-0 lead in the first thanks to leadoff man extroidinaire Zo Fiorillo. Lorenzo started off the game with his first of four hits, a single to left and promptly stole his team record 15th base of the year, which made him a perfect 15 for 15. After Bobby Lopuch and Danny Auricchio each skied to left, Matt Beck did what he did for the entire year, deliver a clutch 2-out rbi single as the Post took the early 1-0 lead. However, that would be the last lead they would hold in 2011.

Two singles, two hit batters and a 3 run homer by cleanup hitter Joe Greco gave Charlies a 4-1 lead and once again the 701ers faced an all too familiar up hill battle. Trailing by the same score in the top of the 3rd, Ray Fyfe lead off the inning with a walk and came around to score on a long triple by Lorenzo Fiorillo. Danny Auricchio got Zo home with a double to left to cut the lead to one at 4-3. One out later it was Charlie Archinal with the clutch 2 out hit, an rbi single to left as the game was tied at four.

Joe Greco again played the spoiler when he ripped a 2 out rbi double and scored on another 2 out single as Charlies took the lead for good at 6-4 entering the fouth. The Post went down in order in the top half of the inning but Charlies sent 9 batters up in their half scoring 6 times and putting the game out of reach at 12-4. Zo Fiorillo hit his 3rd homerun of the year, a long shot to center and Charlie Archinal walked to load the bases with no one out as the Post cut the lead to 12-6. However, the 701ers hopes for a huge comeback died right there as Marty Tambasco flied out to short left for the first out and Vinny Fiorillo hit into the second of three Post double plays. Despite getting 12 hits, the Post left 12 runners on base and finished the 2011 season in disappointing fashion losing to Charlies 13-6.

POST STOOGE VIDEO RELEASED!

On the heels of the new 3 Stooges movie premiering on April 13, 2012 comes word that Columbia pictures had produced a 3 Stooges intro featuring your favorite Post players. In accordance with team policy, the players have free reign from September 21 to April 10 when training begins in earnest for the upcoming softball season. It is during that hiatis that the Post stars, including Skipper Vinny Fiorillo, traveled to Hollywood at the behest of the Farrelly Brothers for the intro taping. Despite excellent early reviews, the Post intro was canned, but Diamond Notes pulled all of it's Hollywood strings and connections to get his grubby little hands on that video. Click on the Post Stooges link for this sneak preview.

ARCHINAL NAMED 2011 POST 701 PLAYER OF THE YEAR

He has compiled a 79-32 won loss record with a 2.31 era in an impressive 14 year Post 701 career. Known for his pitching, Charlie Archinal is just as good a hitter with a lifetime .382 batting average. In the 2011 season Charlie compiled a 6-5 record with a 3.17 era and an opponent batting average against of .264. He also hit .302 with 10 runs scored (2nd on the team) and 10 rbis (2nd, also). His 9 walks helped to contribute to a .500 on base average, good for fourth on the team. For both his pitching and hitting excellence, Charlie was named the 2011 Post 701 Player of the Year. It is not the first time he has won the award. Archinanl won the prestegious award in 2006 and 2009 while finishing 2nd in '07 and '08 and 5th a year ago. Charlie won the award amassing 40 points, followed by the best lead off man in the league, Zo Fiorillo with 29 and rbi machine Matt Beck with 22.

2012 SEASON IN JEOPARDY FOR LOPUCH

14 Years

.340 ba

208 Hits (3rd)

188 runs (2nd)

104 RBI's (5th)

26 Doubles (3rd)

15 Sac Flies (2nd)

72 Walks (2nd)

Following successful shoulder surgery on October 18 for a torn rotator cuff, shortstop Bobby Lopuch has begun a rigorous rehab program, but the 2012 season is in serious doubt. In an exclusive interview with Diamond Notes, Lopuch said that there is a definite posibility that he will not play in the field in 2012. That leaves a DH or EH position for the Post veteran providing he can swing the bat. This news comes after the loss of Kiddi Korp member Shaun Krutz who is relocating in Florida. With the news on Lopuch and Krutz not favorable, the depleted Post roster takes on two more hits for 2012.

MATT BECK: Countdown to 200 RBI's

Matt knocks in one of 15 runs in 2011

He is argueably the most clutch hitter in Post softball history. In a 15 year career he has had double figures in rbis in 13 of those 15 years, and with a career mark of 232 hits, he has had 11 or more hits in 14 of those 15 years. Matt finished the 2011 season with a .426 batting average and his 15 rbis led the team. He now has 9 consecutive years of double digit ribbys, an all-time Post record. Matt finished the 2011 season 3 rbis shy of being the first Post player to knock in 200. The Beck rbi watch will continue into the 2012 season. Diamond Notes, as always, will be on the lookout and document the historic occassion in only 7 short months.

BOBBY LOPUCH: Welcome to the 200 Hit Club

Diamond Notes was on his photogenic best when he snapped this exclusive shot of the 3 members of the exclusive 200 hit club. Scott Brennan (237), Matt Beck (222) and the newest member, Bobby Lopuch (currently with 202) all pose with Lopuch showing off his commemarative 200 hit photo. That photo can be purchased for the extrodinary price of $19.99 on www.myposthero.com. For an additional quarter the star shortstop will autograph the print.

GAMES 14

Lorenzo Fiorillo has the only two homers that the Post has hit this year and Diamond Notes was right there capturing the moment in addition to catching Zo hitting 2nd gear as he rounded second. The red hot Bobby Lopuch grounded out to short in the first as Eddie Silva retired the side in order. Charlie Archinal is seen lining a single in the fourth while Matt Beck followed with another single, one of 8 Post hits in game 15. Bobby Lopuch and Matt Beck pose for the DN lens following the non-game win vs Robin's Nest last Friday. With the Z-Core game in doubt, the Post is down to Emerald Cinema and Russo to complete the regular season. Following the forfeit win when Robin's Nest did not field a team the Post players gathered during the post game spread and enjoyed a cool refreshment while dealing with reporter's questions about their chances for the 2011 playoffs. Matt Beck, Bobby Lopuch, Gavin Murdoch, Charlie Archinal, Rick Jobin, Vinny Fiorillo, Nyle Nelson, Hap Hartig and Ray Fyfe were all spotted chatting about the renewed enthusiasm about a shot at the playoffs. The Post fan base increased by 100% when Harley Auricchio attended his first 701er game even though the game was a forfeit. The 2 month old fan showed plenty of spunk and a tendancy to sleep. Not sleeping was the Post all everything guy Mike Andrews shown smoozing with his better half Cathy after the non-game.

LAST OUT AWARD: Marty Tambasco

What do you do for an encore when you hit .180 for the year and knock in only two runs. You make the last out in the last game. After a career high average of .450 with 14 ribbys in 2010, this senior member of the 701ers went 4 for 25 over his last 9 games, a microscopic .160 ba. So, it was only fitting that Marty Tambasco would bat with the bases loaded and two out in the top of the seventh, with the Post trailing 13-6. After running the count to 3-1 and knowing that the beer was on the line for opening night in 2012 Tambasco took the next pitch for a strike. And, just to complete one heck of an awful year, Tambasco grounded out to third for the final out and with that out, he gets to bring the beer to Game one of the 2012 season.
